Nigeria's agro-commodity export outlook: sesame, ginger, cashew and cocoa
Demand from Asian and European processors keeps growing, but buyers are increasingly strict about moisture, cleaning and traceability. Here is what that means for exporters.
Nigeria remains one of the world's largest producers of sesame seeds and split ginger, and a meaningful supplier of raw cashew nuts and cocoa beans. The opportunity is real, but the buyers who pay premium prices now expect export-grade preparation from the first bag.
Sesame seeds
Buyers in Japan, China and Turkey specify purity above 98 percent and moisture below 6 percent. Cleaning and sorting at the aggregation point, rather than at the port, is the difference between a premium and a discount.
Split ginger
Dried split ginger from the north-central belt is prized for its oil content. Consistent drying and strict moisture control prevent mould claims on arrival, which remain the most common cause of rejected containers.
Cashew and cocoa
Raw cashew nut buyers price on kernel outturn and nut count, while cocoa buyers look at bean count and fermentation. Both reward exporters who can document the farm clusters they source from.
Our approach
- Aggregate directly from verified farming cooperatives.
- Clean, sort, dry and pack under supervision.
- Certify moisture and quality before customs clearance.
- Ship with complete documentation for the destination market.
